Heartburn - A Daily Happening

Introduction

Heartburn is a digestive problem that is created when stomach acid comes into contact with the lining of the esophagus, causing irritation. It has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the heart though the effect may be confused with heart pain and vice versa and is the most common sign of a disease called gastroesophageal reflux or acid reflux. It is frequently called acid indigestion and usually takes place after meals and is a daily occurrence for about ten percent of Americans and up to 50% of pregnant women.

Symptoms

Signs of acid indigestion and a heart attack may feel the same. One of the most commonly occuring symptoms is spitting up. Heartburn symptoms are just plain uncomfortable and quite painful. However, a lot of people will only experience the milder signs. Pay attention and treat it, particularly if you feel symptoms often. The good news is that making alterations to certain habits can go a long way to stopping or halting acid indigestion and other symptoms of GERD.

Heartburn is typically easy to diagnose from the description you give to your physician. If there is any question concerning the diagnosis, you may have the following tests to check for ulcers or other conditions that might be causing your symptoms: barium swallow x-ray study of the esophagus, total upper GI (gastrointestinal) barium x-ray study of the esophagus, stomach, and upper intestine endoscopy: a procedure in which a thin flexible tube with a small camera is placed in your mouth and down into your stomach so your physician can see your esophagus and stomach.

To help diminish the symptoms you can try not to put a lot of pressure on the sphincter muscle. Go for emergency care if the following occur with the heartburn and does not go away within 15 minutes of treatment: shortness of breath; sweating; weakness; or arm, back, or chest pain.

Foods

To minimize attacks, a person may find benefit in staying away from certain foods that relax the opening between the stomach and esophagus, including chocolate, peppermint, and chamomile tea shortly before bedtime. Restricting diet is very important, because 90-95% of sufferers of heartburn or esophageal disorder can link their symptoms to certain foods. If the person notices that certain foods tend to make the condition grow worse, or more frequent, they would be better served to avoid them, or at least speak to the physician about products that may help diminish the amount of stomach acid that can create acid reflux.

Conclusion

Heartburn routinely is due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the rise of stomach acid back up into the esophagus. Acid indigestion and reflux are extremely common, with 10 percent of the population experiencing these signs at least once a week and can be produced or worsened by pregnancy and by various medications.

It is common malady, and an occasional episode is generally nothing to be concern about. Relief in the form of milk can be effective and consuming a small amount of milk regularly over a period of time can begin to heal the effects as it washes acid back into the stomach.

A simple and relatively safe way to treat a one time heartburn is to consume a solution of a small amount of Sodium bicarbonate mixed with water, which quickly neutralizes the acid that creates the pain. Chewing gum can provide short-term relief by stimulating the production of saliva, which dilutes and flushes out stomach acid. When heartburn occurs often, however, or becomes severe, you should consult your health care provider.

Beyond Organic

I am so excited to share with you a new company called, "Beyond Organic" that you can get in on.

You’re probably familiar with NY Times best-selling author Jordan Rubin, author of “The Maker’s Diet,” and founder of the supplement company, Garden of Life.

Jordan is turning his attention to the food industry in which he believes is a big part of the physical basis of health. He is competing against food companies that perpetuate the American diet.

He and his wife have built a large farm designed to produce the purest food, most nutritious and most innovative foods ever offered. These are: green-fed, grass finished beef, hormone free, antibiotic free meat, raw dairy, chocolate with probiotics, flaxseed products, pure mountain spring water and Pre-packaged meals.

Jordan has decided to market and distribute these products in an unconventional way. He is giving the public a chance to get a share in its success. The company will be built through relationships rather than on the marketplace.

Between now and November when the opportunity goes public, you can (for free and by invitation only) become an insider at no cost here: .

You can take a look at these products. We all want clean high-quality organic foods with no additives.

Have a good week,
Lisa, Independent Mission Mktr.

Gluten Free Labeling Regulations

1in133.org - Support Gluten-Free Food Labeling

The celiac and gluten free community has been abuzz with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) re-opening of the comment period for their proposed gluten-free labeling regulations, which is extended through October 3, 2011. It is certainly exciting to see this movement after nearly three years of inaction since the FDA was intended to set a standard definition of gluten-free.

When the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) first learned that the FDA would be re-opening the comment period, they, along with other key stakeholders in the celiac and gluten-free community, knew that it would be important to submit comments and suggestions in unison. They also knew that it would be important to arm the patient and consumer communities with the resources necessary for them to make an informed decision.

The NFCA is pleased to present this type of unified response to the FDA via 1in133.org, a gluten-free consumer advocacy site. As many of you already know, 1in133.org was developed by members of the celiac community and launched in May specifically to address the FDA’s inaction on gluten-free labeling. During this year’s Celiac Awareness Month, the co-founders of 1in133.org held a special event in Washington, DC in an effort to get the labeling regulation moving. It certainly has helped.

They are confident that this joint community effort will come through again, which is why they you to join NFCA and others in the celiac and gluten-free community in signing 1in133.org's Gluten-Free Labeling Proposal Letter.

When the letter is delivered to the FDA, it will include all signatures and will cite all organizations who participated in the advocacy measure. When you complete the form, there is a place to identify your organization. Feel free to enter National Foundation for Celiac Awareness. NFCA will stay intimately involved with this FDA process and post updates when there is news to share.

Also, at www.1in133.org, you will find FAQs and other helpful resources to arm you with the knowledge necessary to join this movement. Please take the time to read these materials and sign this important letter urging the FDA to establish a ruling on gluten-free labeling.

Read and sign the letter

Make your voice be heard in this united community effort and please help spread the word. Thank-you.

Fibromyalgia

For many weeks, you've ached from head to toes. You've no energy, can not concentrate, can't recall the last time you had a sound night's sleep. You have been to the doctor a considerable number of times, but all she can tell you is what you don't have. You've heard about fibromyalgia, perhaps read up about it or even rapped with somebody that has been diagnosed with this confusing disease. Yet nobody can tell you whether you have it.

Sound familiar? If that's the case, welcome to the world of an illness with several faces.

Fibromyalgia - Has Many Faces

Fibromyalgia is a widely misunderstood health condition. For well over a century, it's been known by many alternative names, and that wasn't till the 1970s the term" fibromyalgia " was coined.

The name came from the patient's accurate experience of the illness . "Fibro" represents the fibroid tissues that are influenced (i.e. Ligaments and tendons), while "Myo" represents the muscle-bound system and "Algia" means "pain" - which is also the dominant incarnation of this health condition. Essentially, fibromyalgia means being experiencing discomfort nearly everywhere.

Connie Ludtke R.N, at Mayo Hospice, observes that people think fibromyalgia isn't a real medical problem or it's "all in your head." It's irregularly thought of as a "garbage-can diagnosis:" if doctors can't find anything else wrong with you, they say you have fibromyalgia. She goes on to point out that there are specific standards that you must meet to be diagnosed with this condition, including tender, unpleasant points above and below the waist on either side of the body.

An illness, A Bundle of Symptoms or a Product of your Mind

While there's still alot that remains unknown about fibromyalgia, clinical research has brought a more all-embracing understanding in just the past couple of years. Particularly, discoveries show that when an individual suffers from fibromyalgia, their brain and spinal nerve process discomfort signals differently, making them react more strongly to touch and pressure, and experience an increased sensitivity to touch and pressure. Fibromyalgia is a real physical and neuro-chemical condition.

The North American Varsity of Rheumatology (ACR) has made the diagnosis process for this condition more easy for both patient and specialist, by developing many factors for diagnosing the disorder. According to standards established by the ACR, An individual is believed to suffer fromfibromyalgia if he has experienced wide ranging agony for no less than 3 months, in combo with sensitiveness in at least eleven of 18 stipulated tender point sites. Though this would most likely not be as classic as an Xray or blood test, it does at least give some direction that can lead to a comparatively trusty diagnosis.

Keep Your Skin Healthy and Youthful

Many of us know everyday people in our lives that have excellent skin. What I mean is that their skin is toned, without any acne and blemishes, excessive lines and wrinkles, age spots, etc. and is known for a very vibrant physical appearance. Many folks feel that it will take a whole lot of dollars and hard work for one's skin to be that great. Next to nothing can be further from the truth. It is actually positively not needed to commit loads of dollars on numerous beauty items to accomplish this. Of course you ought to apply personal hygiene and cleansing and moisturizing items to effectively scrub, cleanse and care for your skin. But this doesn't really need to prolong beyond what you are able uncover in your native store. Put simply, you do not need to try to find any 'miraculous' or significantly expensive merchandise. Apart from your superior cleansers and moisturizers for instance those from NIVEA, here are a handful of very simple recommendations that will assist you to keep your skin in good health.

First thing to take into consideration is your daily diet. Stay away from a large amount of fast food and drinks which contain massive amounts of caffeine and sugars. Amongst the primary outcomes of this type of diet regime in many people is pimples on their skin which can often be difficult and pricey to get rid of. Keeping an eye on your consumption for these sorts of items can minimize the acne predicament in most folks. Consuming fresh vegatables and fruits has actually been identified to provide you with the natural vitamins and other nourishing substances that are crucial for a healthier skin.

Seafood is specially highly recommended as being a part of your diet regime for this purpose. A similarly critical component of your intake is water. Water is crucial for hydration. The majority of us already know that dehydration is unhealthy for our bodies but we omit that skin is similarly an organ - the largest sized organ of the body, and requires to be hydrated just like the other organs do.

Your next items to look at are your lifestyle. Have you been a heavy tobacco user or drinker? Aside from damaging your renal system, too much drinking can dry up your skin and cause you to look much older. The smoke and carcinogens in cigarettes are also horrible for your skin. Perhaps you've spotted people that happen to have been heavy smokers for quite a few years, and how their skin has a form of 'leathery' look? That is not a beautiful look for your skin so refrain from smoking. If you are much like me, you likely enjoy being outside quite a bit. Being outdoors is fantastic, and way too many of us nowadays don't get out enough. But when you do get out, if you are gonna be under the sun for any length of time, do not neglect to get a superior sunscreen to apply to your skin first. Direct sun exposure without some kind of proper protection on your skin for longer amounts of time can result in unsightly skin damage such as freckles, age spots, and sunburns, not forgetting the more major threats of melanoma.

And lastly, your daily normal routine is an critical part of looking after your skin. You must thoroughly clean your skin every day, preferably two times a day and dry it appropriately. If you are more prone to dry skin, utilize a reliable moisturizing lotion to keep your skin hydrated. If you have oily skin, find a good cleanser that will help eradicate the excess oil. Stick to these pointers, and you too can certainly have lively skin for a number of years.

New Diabetes Monitor is More Accurate, Painless, and...Can Talk to Smartphones!

Diabetes is an old syndrome dating back to the dawn of man, often considered a formidable bug that must be reckoned with. This is a deadly disease snatches the lives of millions of individuals irrespective of status, age or culture. Nobody is an exception here. Scientists have worked for several years to come up with the near perfect remedy to combat this deadly disease. Until then, people infected with this disease have gotten used to continuously pricking their fingers to monitor their glucose level, and injecting themselves with insulin.

Today comes a smart diabetes-related invention known as the GlucoReader, thanks to technology and to the brilliant ideas of four engineering enthusiasts. Historically, everyone on the development team has close contact with significant loved ones and friends who suffer from diabetes. This became their source of inspiration, and is why they came up with this kind of clever idea.

Drawing Blood is No Pain

GlucoReader is a gizmo that constantly monitors blood sugar intensity inside the person's body. This new technology uses less painful microneedles to suck blood. It's a very cost effective innovation since it pushes patients away from the classic finger-sticking, painful means of delivering medications and the expense of a costly monitoring apparatus. The funny thing about this device is that a Bluetooth will be implanted inside the device to send digital information to immediate family members and attending physicians via Android smartphones, iPhones and other Web-based technologies, effectively replacing all the wires some patients must constantly wear.

According to Mr. Brian Chan of MobiLIFE, they are already trying to engineer this device as a somewhat portable patch where a patient can easily wear one during the daytime and remove it at night. MobiLIFE promises this will get rid of the traditional pain associated with diabetes treatment so patients can thrive more comfortably, while also receiving more accurate readings, and thus more accurate medication dispensation.

The GlucoReader is need only be worn by type 2 patients after meals, since their bodies produce insufficient insulin. On the other hand, Type 1 patients who don't produce insulin at all, are advised to wear the devise constantly so it can monitor them throughout the day in order to accurately coordinate with the insulin-delivery mechanism.

The Price is Right

Diabetics under type 1 entail a constant monitoring where accuracy is an issue, which translated into expense, since insurance companies are reluctant to cover previously introduced monitoring devices due to their inaccuracy, making such devices cost from $1,000 to $3000. Founders of MobiLIFE guesstimate that the price of their device will be trimmed down to as low as $600 to $500 once the GlucoReader proves that it can show accurate results in order to gain coverage by insurance companies.

The MobiLIFE continues improving the design of the GlucoReader in order to improve the perfect microneedle size and shape and at the same time find means to lessen the power used from the Bluetooth device installed in the patch, as well as various other engineering challenges, in order to lessen the cost of the final device.

As of now, Chan is continuously searching for benevolent angel investors for his startup, and is seeking government grants to help his company bring this ingenuity to realization, so it can revolutionize the medical industry and benefit of the consumers. Don't look for this in stores or pharmacies just yet, though. The product is just moving from testing on blood, to testing on animals, so it could be a year or two before we see it. But it's a welcome relief for diabetes sufferers to know that a more pain-free, accurate solution is on its way.

Tips For Going Gluten Free

It can be very hard when you’re first told that gluten must be removed from your life. A lot of your life will have to be rearranged, but here are some tips to help you along the way.

• Don’t rush grocery shopping. In the beginning this will take much longer than usual, but it is important to read through all ingredients carefully.

• Make sure your kitchen is entirely gluten free. For some households this may be too difficult, but do your best not to use anything that might contain gluten contaminates when cooking and baking gluten free. It is important to dedicate special kitchen supplies for gluten-free cooking. You may also want to have separate kitchen utensils such as sponges, toasters (a dedicated gluten-free toaster is highly recommended), sifters, bread machines , etc.

• If you share a kitchen with gluten eating family members, it is a good idea to store their food products separately from your gluten-free products, and to clean off all surfaces before you prepare your gluten-free food . Dedicating gluten-free cupboards and refrigerator shelves is a great way to start.

• When dining out it is always important to find out what safety precautions the restaurant uses to avoid cross-contamination, and to make sure all the ingredients in your food are gluten-free.

• Be wary of cross contamination in your bathroom. There are many products in your bathroom to watch out for as many body products contain wheat and/or hidden gluten ingredients. Many gluten-free body products are not labeled gluten-free, so it is important to read ingredient labels carefully and check with the manufacturer if necessary.

• Some medications and supplements can contain gluten. Read the ingredients and check with your pharmacist and/or the manufacturer to find out if your prescriptions, vitamins and supplements are gluten-free.

• Make your pets gluten free. You never know when you will get an unexpected kiss on the lips from your pet, so it doesn't hurt to have them go gluten free too!
