8 Excellent Ways to Host a Memorable Christmas Party

Hosting a Christmas party can be fun and exciting. Make your party a memorable one by doing these simple ways: set a date; set a budget and figure out the number of guests; send out invitations; plan your menu; decorate your party venue; choose your party utensils; prepare some music; and, take a lot of beautiful photos.

They say hosting a party is a tough job. But, it shouldn't be. It should make you find it as an enjoyable task. Proper planning is the key to that. Asking help from your friends and family members will make it easier for you too. Here some ways you might want to follow to make your planning and actual party a really memorable and perfect one:

Set a date

You have the weekends and some holidays in December to host a party. Yet, it is helpful to set the date and send invitations as early as November. For sure, your guests might be having other parties at this time of the year. So, you need to plan and inform them ahead of time to prevent any conflicts with your guests' schedules.

Set a budget and figure out the number of guests

Make a decision on the amount of money you can afford to spend for your party. A small budget is not a problem. It is a matter of setting priorities and allocating your funds properly. You can have the party at your place or perhaps look for a restaurant that provides for a function room to accommodate your guests. Choose the one that costs you less. The number of guests to be invited is one important factor in determining your party budget.

Send out invitations

Sending out invitation cards should be done at least three weeks before the party. You can buy invitation cards online or buy them from your nearest store. You also have an option of making your own invitation cards to add some personal touch. Just make sure to use a Christmas stationery to match with the theme of the party. Choose an envelope that complements with the design of the stationery too. It is important to include in your invitation the basic details such as the date, time, and venue of the party. Indicate also your name being the host of the party. Don't forget to mention the type of party too. Whether it's a dinner buffet party, a cocktail party, or whatever you have in mind.

Plan your menu

Planning a menu is very essential in hosting a party. If you wish to have your party at your place, then choose an array of food that will be easy for you to prepare. Choose those that are easy for you to handle and to serve as well. Appetizers and desserts should compromise a wide selection for everyone to fully enjoy. Beverage of different sorts can be really enticing for everyone especially for kids. If you happen to include kids in your party invitation, then have some milk and fruit juices.

Decorate your party venue

You can decorate your party venue by using less expensive Christmas decors and lights. A Christmas tree should be one of the highlights of your party decorations. Your food table, of course, should also have the best decorations. You can have some table napkins with Christmas design prints. A table cloth accented with festive holiday prints will surely add beauty to your table.

Choose your party utensils

You can use disposable spoons, forks, plates, cups instead of the breakables. Just make sure that you choose the ones that are durable. In fact, there are several disposable utensils with Christmas designs and prints too. They will definitely add some charm to your theme.

Prepare some music

To create a joyful atmosphere and to keep the Christmas spirit in the air, you can play Christmas music in the background while everyone is having their fill of your sumptuous food.

Take a lot of beautiful photos

Make sure to capture every beautiful moment of your party. You can personally take photos or maybe ask someone to take the pictures while you entertain your guests. You can even send a photo to every guest along with your 'thank you' card.

Heartland Pasta Review and Giveaway

This is a review and giveaway for gluten-free pasta from Heartland Pasta. One lucky winner will receive 5 bags of gluten-free spaghetti.

Have you been looking for a great-tasting, non-sticky and EASY gluten free pasta? You are in luck. Heartland Pasta introduces its gluten-free variety, offering a delicious alternative without sacrificing flavor. Try Heartland Pasta's new gluten-free pasta, which is available at Wal-Mart Supercenters across the nation for around $2 per package. Heartland Gluten-Free matches the color, texture and flavor of traditional pasta – an industry first. Heartland Gluten Free offers spaghetti, penne and fusilli shapes and owes its traditional pasta taste to a unique yellow corn/white rice blend.

This is one of my recipes I tried with Heartland Pasta's gluten-free spaghetti. I posted it last month as Gluten-Free Spaghetti. The pasta tastes pretty good. It has a light and airy taste. My family and ate up the spaghetti. I really think they liked it. The pasta did stick together a little bit when I cooked it, so I added some olive oil to help it not stick together. It did not take to long for it to cook up, then I added my own personal spaghetti sauce to it and some vegetables on the side and wahla a yummy dinner to eat. All in all a good product, I give Heartland Pasta's Gluten-Free Pasta 4 stars out of 5.

Check out Heartland Pasta on their website. They have recipes and a product locator. You can get get their gluten-free pasta at Wal-Mart and also on Amazon.

Glee Gum is all-natural, gluten-free chewing gum with no artificial coloring, flavoring, sweeteners nor preservatives. Glee Gum is the only gum in North America made the old-fashioned way, with chicle. Chicle is a natural tree sap harvested sustainably from the rain forests of Central America. Once all chewing gum was made with chicle, but today most gum is made entirely from synthetic stuff. Not Glee Gum. Glee Gum uses chicle because it is an eco-friendly way to help conserve the rain forest. Chicle is also what gives the gum such great, long-lasting chewing texture! Glee Gum is a green gum right down to the packaging, which is made from biodegradable, recycled cardboard. So chew with Glee, naturally.

Check out The Glee Gum Website for all the different flavors they have, where to buy and for the history of Glee Gum. They even have their own blog. You can also get Glee Gum on Amazon.

The Importance of Fiber in a Gluten-Free Diet

We all need to have fiber in our diet even so in the gluten-free diet so that we can stay strong and healthy.

Fiber not only promotes health, it also helps to reduce the risk for some chronic diseases. For instance, fiber prevents constipation, hemorrhoids and diverticulitis. Fiber is also linked to prevent some cancers especially colon and breast cancer. In addition, fiber my help to lower the LDL cholesterol (the Bad cholesterol) and the total cholesterol therefore reducing the risk of heart disease. Furthermore, fiber can help lower blood sugar and help better manage diabetes.

Soluble Fiber and Insoluble Fiber. Both soluble and insoluble fiber are undigested. They are not absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead of being used for energy, fiber is excreted from our bodies. Soluble fiber forms a gel when mixed with liquid, while insoluble fiber doesn't. Insoluble fiber passes through our intestine largely intact.

Insoluble fiber moves bulk through the intestines and controls the balance of PH (acidity) in the intestines. As a result it promotes regular bowel movement, prevents constipation, removes toxic waste through colon in less time and helps prevent colon cancer by keeping an optimal PH in the intestines to prevent microbes from producing cancerous substances.

Food sources for insoluble fiber are: Vegetables such as green beans and dark leafy vegetables, Fruit skins, root vegetable skins, corn bran, seeds and nuts.

Soluble fiber binds with fatty acids and prolongs the stomach emptying time so that sugar is released and absorbed more slowly. As a result it it lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) reducing the risk of heart disease and regulates blood sugar for people with diabetes.

Food sources of soluble fiber are: Oat/Oat bran, dried beans and peas, nuts, flax seeds, fruits such as oranges and apples, vegetables such as carrots and psyhllium husk.

Tips for adding fiber are: add fiber slowly by adding one extra serving a day until you reach your goal. Drink plenty of water by drinking 8 - 10, 8 oz. glasses of water a day. Daily exercise helps the GI track work better, for example a daily walk. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruits and vegetables are an easy way to add fiber to your diet. Another great way to add fiber is to include legumes (beans like kidney, garbanzo and limas) or peas, such as split peas or lentils. Try using the Gluten-Free flours below in your baked goods or use the seeds as a side dish to a meal.

Gluten-Free Fiber Sources

GF Flours (1 cup)

Stay Fit During the Holidays with 10 Easy Exercises

Question: What's the best form of exercise?
Answer: The one you'll actually do!

As long as your fitness program:
A. Raises your heart rate
B. Has a strength training component
C. And is done at least thirty minutes a day five days a week – you'll experience significant health benefits.

Variety is the spice of life; it keeps you motivated and works better for your body by working different muscle groups. You don't need to go to a gym and use fitness equipment. In fact, here are ten simple, yet effective exercises you can do in the comfort of your own home that can help prevent putting on holiday weight:

1. Take a Hike/Stroll

It's also simple, low-impact and easy on the joints – just put on a comfortable pair of shoes, step outside and walk at a fairly brisk pace around your neighborhood. It's a great way to clear the head and improve your mood – it may be cold, but will give you an opportunity to enjoy all the lights and decorations for the holiday season.

2. Jump!

Act like your kids on Christmas morning! Jump up and down, or do some jumping jacks. They're a great way to get the heart pumping and the limbs loosened up. 15-20 repetitions with a minute or two of rest between sets for thirty minutes should be sufficient. This will increase endurance and work on toning your thighs.

3. "Drop and Give Me 20, Soldier!"

Push-ups confer all the same strength-training benefits of bench presses with barbells – without the risk of handling heavy weights and need for a "spotter." You can adjust the intensity by elevating your feet. Push-ups do more than work your arms, they are a total body workout.

4. Lift That Leg

This provides a strength training workout for the thighs and adductors (muscles that attach the upper leg to the hip). If you can't manage leg lifts with a straight leg, bend the knee.

5. Washboard Abs?

You may not get "ripped" by doing crunches, but you'll definitely work your ab muscles – and this will award real benefits to your back as well, and you will see an improvement in toning your abs.

6. You Can Keep Running In Place...

...and you should. This is an exercise you can do while watching TV, making the "boob tube" actually good for something. You can also do it while stringing popcorn on the string for the tree.

7. The Squatters...

No, we don't mean settling land that isn't yours – it's what you do every time you sit in and get up from a chair. Just do it several times until you "feel the burn...", and

8. Household Weight Equipment

Cans of food, milk and water jugs, sacks of flour – you'd be amazed at how much weight training equipment is just sitting in your pantry or refrigerator. (Who knew your could actually lose weight with using your holiday baking ingredients?)

9. Roll Up The Carpet

The latest craze is dancing off the weight, but not all of us can get to the classes when they are offered and the videos cost more than Christmas. Instead roll up the carpet, and crack up the tunes, whether it's Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas" or whatever is on the radio, dancing will increase your aerobic hear rate, and help with endurance training.

10. Steppin' Up

Finally, you don't have to buy a bench step and sign up for a step class to do step. Chances are you've got a step or two around your home. So while those cookies are in the oven, run the stairs a few times. The timers will make great intervals and keep you fit while baking!

The fact of the matter is, that all of these are not difficult, and do not require patience, or a long drawn out explanation. They are simple and they WORK. So maybe you aren't getting fit on treadmills, or ellipticals, but the end result is the same and you will have a lot of extra cash to go and spend it on holiday gifts, or a treat for yourself!
